Produced in the wake of the installation La fonte des glaciers, this photograph, by its composition, recalls Frederic Edwin Church’s paintings of icebergs. The image distances itself, however, from traditional representations of northern landscapes, as the fragmentary nature of its composition prompts a reflection on the shifting border line between the familiar and the strange, amplified by the manifest artifice of the staging.
