“In recent works, the artist has pushed the revelation of simulacra further by showing the model’s ‘underside.’ In Dispositifs de paysage no 3 (2004), the reduced scale-model is presented with its enabling apparatus: trestles, backdrop, lamps, photographic equipment. Its status as simulacrum is thus beyond doubt, though the life-like impression resulting from the arrangement of trees and mountain relief remains entire. The procedure draws a smile. The device is obvious, but still prompts an interrogation of the factuality of the scene, since the photographic framework influences our very interpretation of the landscape.”
